Request #2 Request #1 was for the same youth, for supplies he needs as he transitions into the college dorms. This 19-year-old young man has been in the Child Welfare system for two years, but only after suffering almost a lifetime of emotional abuse as the result of living in a very violent household.
Despite his childhood trauma, he has done well, chose Extended Foster Care, and is now a NMD (Non-Minor Dependent). He will be graduating from High School in June 2025, with excellent grades. He is not employed, as he wants to focus on his education; he does do some peer tutoring for extra money.
After high school, he will be attending UCI, living on campus. He proudly says he will be the first in his family to attend college and wants to set an example for his younger sister, who is also in foster care. He is very humble, hoping he's not asking for too much. He offered to show me his grades and certificates to prove he is taking his education seriously. He will need a lap top and is hoping for an electric scooter. He is open to a gift certificate, or having an adult help him shop for these items.

This young man is asking for some of the “basics” as he transitions to college dorm life: sheets, towels, blankets, pillows, toiletries, school supplies, etc. He would be happy with a gift card (I am estimating $500) so he can purchase the items himself. He would also be open to having someone assist him with the shopping - he does not have transportation – and may need an adult’s guidance as to what to buy, how to budget, what needs he may not be anticipating, etc. Additionally, he needs a laptop and is requesting an electric scooter. I will submit a 2nd request for those items.

This request is for a refugee family of 7 who recently moved from a small furnished apartment to an unfurnished one. They are asking for a refrigerator that is in good working condition. Since they live in an apartment, the ideal size would be between 20 and 24 cu ft. Style is not essential.

The father has only been able to secure work two days a week, and the mother stays at home to care for the five children. The father attends school to continue improving his English skills, which will give him more employment opportunities.

The following items are needed: 2 Twin mattresses, 2 twin bed frames, 2 Twinn bedding, 1 set pots and pans, 1 dresser, 5 towels, 1 dining table and 5 chairs. This is a single mom with three young kids in elementary school who’s been going through a tough time. She’s been experiencing homelessness and has been moving between Los Angeles and Orange County. While staying in LA, her kids missed over a week of school because she didn’t have a way to get them to school. Right now, the family is staying in Orange County, and with just three weeks left in the school year, the mom really wants her children to finish out the year at their school in Corona-Norco. School has been one of the few stable things in the kids’ lives lately, and she’s doing her best to keep that going. Mom needs support in the form of gas cards to help her get the kids to and from school during these last few weeks. Anything would help and would go a long way in supporting this family during a difficult time.

Currently working with a single father who is facing a series of devastating setbacks. Recently, his employer downsized, drastically cutting his hours, leaving him with barely enough income to stay afloat. As if that wasn’t enough, his car—his only means of getting to work and taking his daughters to school—broke down unexpectedly. The repairs were costly, forcing him to use what little he had saved just to keep it running. Now, he’s behind on rent and accumulating late fees, with eviction looming over his head. Despite doing everything he can to provide, his application for EBT was denied, leaving him unable to afford even the most basic groceries. He’s the sole caregiver to three growing daughters who need food, clothing, and other daily essentials, and can use a Walmart or target gift card. Urgently needs support especially food cards and basic necessities.

I’m reaching out on behalf of a family in need — a single mother and her teenage son who are currently experiencing homelessness. The student, has a deep passion for basketball. According to his school counselor, he has recently become withdrawn and less communicative, likely due to the stress of his current living situation. However, when he’s on the court playing basketball, his entire demeanor shifts — it’s the one place where he seems to come alive. We strongly believe that participating in a Summer Basketball Camp this June would offer him not only a positive and structured environment, but also a critical emotional and mental outlet during a very challenging time in his life. We are seeking sponsorship support to help cover the cost of the camp. A single mother of two is currently experiencing financial hardship after the father of her children stopped making child support payments. She is a full-time student at RCC, pursuing a degree in social work, and is on track to graduate early next year. While working hard to cover extra expenses for her daughters, she is requesting assistance with food, gas, and clothing.

A single mother of two is currently facing a utility shut-off after falling behind on payments. She has been residing in her unit for an extended period and has been adhering to a payment plan of $120 per month. This month, her outstanding balance has reached $438.17. She has received a red tag notice warning that if she does not pay at least half of the balance, her utilities will be disconnected. To prevent the shut-off, she is attempting to pay $219, but is requesting assistance with covering the remaining balance in order to avoid further disconnection threats.

I have a student in my school that is going through a hard time. His family will be experiencing housing uncertainty at the end of the month. My student's main concern is not having enough food to eat or any clothes to wear. The single mom is doing the best she can to work and provide for her two children but has fallen on hard times recently. My student comes to school emotional and worried. Filling this request would enhance well being for my student, his little brother and their mom.

I am asking for a grocery card for the family. A pair of shoes and some underwear, plain shirts and pants for the each boy. Also some clothing items for mom if possible.

A dedicated student who will be graduating this June from Riverside City College with her RN certification is a single mother who has shown remarkable commitment in managing her academic responsibilities, parenting, and limited work hours. Due to the intensity of the RN program, she is currently working reduced hours, making it challenging to cover the costs associated with the licensure process. Assistance with the following expenses will enable her to obtain her nursing license and begin employment as a registered nurse, with starting wages around $40 per hour. This will greatly enhance her ability to independently support herself and her son.
